Just a short hot, tip for you today. OpenAI suddenly introduced a feature that allows YouTube videos to be embedded directly within your ChatGPT chats. This means you can watch a related YouTube video without having to switch tabs. All you have to do is use GPT 4o and ask it to show you how to do something (or specifically request a video). Here I asked it to for one of my specialities: Show me how to get exact word counts in ChatGPT please.

Isn’t that cool? The player is embedded right there in the output!

Interestingly, ChatGPT seems incognisant of the contents, and insists it only gave you a link (if pressed). So it appears it’s an interface upgrade; ChatGPT can’t control or interact with this functionality. The actual video content is still hosted on YouTube. Also, ChatGPT seems to pull only what is publicly available about the video, and not the transcript itself.

Why Is This Useful?

Watch videos without leaving your chat, maintaining the flow.

You can get instant clarifications or expand on what you just watched.

Using ChatGPT as a tutor? Videos enrich the experience by offering both visual and auditory learning tools. Learn how to bake sourdough bread while asking the AI for ingredient substitutes or step-by-step timing.

No need to copy links and open new tabs; it’s all integrated.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

This update makes ChatGPT even more versatile. But here’s another cool aspect of the shift to multimedia output: it’s a boon for content creators who want their videos seen. By embedding YouTube content, ChatGPT opens up another channel for discoverability. Your video tutorial could now be a go-to resource directly linked to AI-generated conversations.

In short, this is your sign to start optimizing your video content for both YouTube and conversational AI. ChatGPT doesn’t interpret the content of the video itself. So optimizing your Youtube video for smart SEO means writing clear, concise metadata that aligns with common user queries.

The spotlight will be on video metadata — titles, descriptions, tags, etc.— because that’s what ChatGPT references when it fetches a YouTube video.

ChatGPT playing YouTube videos is amazing. You can watch tutorials, learn new skills, or even stream cat videos. Finally, AI understands our priorities!
